Motor Vehicle Engineering

The Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair qualification is mainly aimed at school leavers who wish to take up a career in all aspects of the motor trade.  The course includes weekly Work Placement at local garages.  Students progress to higher levels of Motor Vehicle Courses.  Key Skills is an essential part of these full-time courses.

If you are interested in a career in Heavy Vehicle engineering, then this course will help you develop the necessary skills and knowledge required at Level 1.The course will give you an introduction to the skills and knowledge you need to carry out basic vehicle repairs and maintenance as well as developing essential employment skills.

During the course you will spend time in the classroom as well as hands-on practical sessions in the workshop, where you can put your knowledge and hand skills to use. You will study the theory side of all the vehicle systems both heavy and light vehicle along with health & safety and essential employment skills. Successful completion of the course gives you access and progress to apprentice technician vacancies within the automotive industry with the prospect of a career as an Heavy Vehicle technician or as a self-employed Automotive Engineer.

The qualification will cover all aspects of mechanical and electrical maintenance and repair of light vehicles. The qualification should interest individuals who want to develop a career in the motor industry.

The course is aimed at learners who are interested in following a career as a welder or welder/fabricator. The course is also useful as a foundation qualification for those wanting to join the armed forces. You will be expected to attend the College for four days a week for the PEO Course and the City and Guilds 2850 Level 2 Welding and Fabrication course. You will also attend a work experience placement to gain valuable on-the-job training. Attendance at your work placement is of utmost importance.
