A Level

You will be introduced to accounting principles, including Financial Accounting and Final Accounts. The course gives you a wide ranging view of business activity and the importance of accounting for planning, operating and monitoring business performance.  This course is available as an AS only.

On this course you will be able to study some of the world’s fascinating religions and you will be encouraged to use an enquiring, critical and empathetic approach to these studies. You will cover a range of topics, including learning about the diverse society in which we live.  This course is available at AS Level only

The course will enable you to develop your creative talents and skills in a variety of media. You will be enabled to give visual form to observations, emotions and ideas, using painting, drawing, three-dimensional work and other media.

At Advanced Subsidiary Level (AS) candidates will produce two units of work one of which will be an externally assessed terminal examination. At Advanced Level (A2) you will again produce two units of work one of which will be an externally assessed terminal examination.

You may choose to follow the Advanced Subsidiary (AS) course exclusively which is a complete programme of study in itself covering a broad range of skills including the endorsed titles of: Fine Art, Graphic Design, 3D Design, Textiles, Photography, Critical and Contextual Studies. You may choose to opt for the unendorsed title of general Art and Design which incorporates any of the above endorsed titles or Photography.
 

This course will enable you to widen your knowledge of living organisms and how they function, feed, develop, reproduce and move. At the AS stage you will learn about molecules, cells, transport and reproduction. At the A2 stage you will learn about microbiology, environment genetics and evolution.

You will study the world of business in its immense variety, learning how economies function, products are developed and marketed and how to manage people, finance and resources. The course will sharpen your analytical skills as well as widening your experience of the possibilities of entrepreneurial activity.

This is a very practical and rewarding course, combining the activities required to perform plays with critical evaluation and analysis of drama.

A Level Electronics will enable you to follow a professional career in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Design, Computer hardware, Communications and Control Engineering.

The course will enable you to develop your writing skills as well as studying drama, poetry and prose texts from both a linguistic and literary perspective. A2 builds on and widens your studies enabling you to appreciate the cultural significance of the modern and classical literary world.

You will develop skills and confidence in communicating in spoken and written French. Topic based activities are used to develop these skills.

History at this level encourages you to develop skills of investigation, interpretation and evaluation of past events and provides a study of selected themes, periods or topics. You will study Welsh, English, British and European History, with a detailed period study of Aspects of the History of Wales and England.

This course is based on the study of human life. At the AS stage you can study topics including Molecules, Cells and Systems; Pathogens and disease.  At the A2 stage you will further develop your experimental and investigative skills, and study Inheritance, Evolution and Ecosystems and the Human Life Span together with practical coursework.
 

If you are keen to expand your knowledge and skills in this rapidly developing and vibrant area of life then this course is for you. You will learn how complex software can be created and implemented to enable powerful computers to meet society’s business, communication and entertainment needs.

You will be encouraged to develop the ability to build an understanding and communicate legal arguments, and build and understanding of legal method and reasoning. This course has a critical and analytical approach to the law of England and Wales.

You can develop a fuller understanding of mathematics and mathematical processes, and their importance for Science, Commerce and other aspects of modern life.

On this course, you develop a clear understanding of the significance of the mass media for the modern world. You will learn how to analyse and evaluate the varying approaches of different media and the processes they follow to obtain and communicate information and provide entertainment.

This course enables you to develop varied forms, themes and traditions of music and develop your interests and skills in performing music of various types. The course ranges from Baroque to the twentieth century, studying composition, instrumentation, philosophies etc.

This course enables you to understand the complex process behind human performance and has practical and theoretical elements.
At AS stage you can learn about the structure of the human body, how to acquire and improve movement skills , the investigation of contemporary issues and the acquisition and development of physical skills.
 

On this course you will develop a wide understanding of Physics and its applications from pioneers like Newton to present day space scientists.

On this course, you can learn how societies are structured and how they work, and how individuals and groups interact. It provides a sound understanding of sociological thought and methods, and the opportunity to develop a range of skills.

This course will set strong foundations for further study while at the same time developing language skills for workplace activity. The course includes discussing film and drama, use of language and twentieth century poetry.

You will be studying four modules where topics in physical chemistry (study of properties of substances) organic chemistry (study of reactions of carbon containing compounds), inorganic chemistry (study of the Periodic Table and reactions of elements and their compounds).

 The remaining two modules will be based on practical work (20 % of the course is based on this). You will be taught using a combination of traditional lectures, tutorials, group work, assignments, short tests, and practical work in the lab.

A Level Design and Technology is recommended for students wishing to combine with science, humanities and creative subjects.  The units studied cover a range of areas within product design.

Psychology is the study of behaviour. Research methods and how psychologists gather their data are an integral part of the course. Human behaviour in respect to social influence, memory, cognition and individual differences will be covered in the first year with forensic psychology, cognition and law and aspects of childhood development studied at A2.

Learners will follow the AS Spanish course in year 1 and A Level Spanish if they progress to year 2.  You will develop your understanding of the spoken and written forms of Spanish, and the ability to communicate effectively in Spanish through both the spoken and written word

 

On this course you will develop a wide understanding of your role as global citizens and your responsibilities towards global development and sustainability.
