Students from the Independent Living Skills (ILS) department at Coleg Menai swept the board at the Young Enterprise 2012 North West Wales Area competition in Caernarfon recently.
The final was supported by a number of local and national business and business organisations, including the ACCA, IOSH, Careers Wales and the FSB.
Criw Create were ecstatic to walk away with 4 awards including:
Best Trade Stand Presented by Ryan Sheppard Stability
Best Company Report supported by ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) and Presented by Alun Ffred Jones AM for Arfon
Health and Safety Award supported by IOSH (Institution of Safety and Health) Presented by Helen Tapley (IOSH)
Best Overall Team Presented by Cllr Ioan Thomas Mayor of Caernarfon
Selwyn Griffith, Young Enterprise Manager for North West Wales explained “29 companies were registered on the programme from Colleges and Secondary schools throughout the region. This number is very heartening and significantly up on recent years, Students from participating centres run their own business over the course of the academic year. In order to compete in the finals, each company have to submit a Company Report, been interviewed at their Trade Stands and given a presentation to judges and guests. The overall winners decided by the judges at this day event, will represent North West Wales at an All Wales Finals in Cardiff on June 18th ”.
The students from the Pre-Vocational and Life Skills course produced homemade jams, marmalade, sauces, pickles and even Christmas puddings, selling their goods with the help of tutors Linda Fraser and Helen Parry.
Tutor Helen Parry was delighted, she commented “The students have worked so hard and their stall and presentation was very impressive. To win four awards in absolutely fantastic and I’m extremely proud of them! We are all looking forward to the All Wales Final in June!”
