This September, two members of Coleg Menai staff will be competing in the Great North Run on behalf of Cancer Research UK.
Jake Halstead from Bethesda and Rob Humphreys from Rhiwlas who both work in the MIS department at Coleg Menai are busy training for this event and hope to raise a lot of money for Cancer Research UK.
The Bupa Great North Run is the premier event in the Great Run series and firmly established as the world’s most popular half-marathon. Runners can choose the charity that they would like to support. Jake and Rob will be participating in the Great North Run in Newcastle on the 16th September.
Jake commented “I took up running about a year ago and decided to set myself a challenge to work towards. Rather than just run the race for myself however, I thought it would be an excellent opportunity to raise money for charity. Nearly all of us will know of a friend, colleague, or relative who has been affected by cancer and by supporting Cancer Research UK we can help improve the prospects of those suffering from the disease. 13.1 miles is a long way to run, but knowing that we are doing it for such a great cause will make it that much easier.”
Rob commented “Having recently lost family, friends and colleagues to cancer, I could think of no better charity to raise money for than Cancer Research UK and taking part in The Great North Run has given me the perfect opportunity to do this. Shockingly 1 in 3 people in the UK will develop some form of cancer during their lifetime. Every year Cancer Research UK spends hundreds of millions of pounds on research into diagnosing, preventing and treating cancer. By donating generously we too can support the amazing work Cancer Research UK does and help save lives.”
Coleg Menai have chosen to support Cancer Research UK as their selected charity as they have recently lost three long serving members of staff to this illness.
