An exhibition by Fine Art graduates from Coleg Menai was officially opened recently, despite the stormy weather preventing the guest of honour from attending. Alfredo Cramerotti, Director of Mostyn in Llandudno, was scheduled to do the honours, but was hindered by the severe rainfall which flooded the A55. However, Emrys Williams, Art and Design lecturer at Coleg Menai stepped into the breach, and welcomed all to the auspicious event.
Open from the July 7th, the exhibition offers ample opportunity for visitors to view some stunning examples of work by each of this year’s Fine Art graduates, including pieces by Dion Hamer, Maurice Lock, Hannah Hession, Iwan Evans, Joan Blackford, Mel Cunningham, Miguel Roques-Nunes, Natasha Tickner, Sheila Graham, Nicola Bartholomew and Sara Moore.
Emrys Williams said: “The official opening of the exhibition was very well attended, and people turned out despite the weather’s best efforts to convince them not to. We were very impressed by the students’ work – it was almost an abbreviated version of their summer show previously held at Parc Menai, and it was interesting to see how they had adapted their pieces to suit their new environment.”
Helen Jones, also of Coleg Menai, added: “It has been all go for these students today – they were at their graduation ceremony this afternoon and, straight after, had to rush to make sure that everything was right for the opening of the exhibition. It has been another extremely successful year for Coleg Menai’s Fine Art graduates, with the creation of some spectacular pieces. We are extremely proud of each and every one of them.”
The Fine Art Exhibition will run from the 7th-21st July at the Gwynedd Museum & Art Gallery on Ffordd Gwynedd, Bangor, with opening times between 6.30-8.30 p.m.
Coleg Menai offers a range of qualifications in Art & Design, ranging from Level 1 to BA (Hons). For more information, visit the website www.menai.ac.uk/courses or contact the course advice line on 01248 38 33 33.
