Future is bright for Menai students

Over 60 students who successfully completed Access to Higher Education courses celebrated recently at an Awards Ceremony held at Coleg Menai’s Friars site, Bangor. The ceremony was organised to congratulate the students on their achievements and to present them with their certificates.

The students completed the Access to Higher Education course in subjects including Art & Design, Psychology and Social Sciences.

Alana Roberts, the Access Programme Area Manager commented, “This evening is a fantastic opportunity for the students to come together and celebrate their success, with their family and friends whose support throughout was vital.  Many of the students are in employment as well as studying. They are all very committed and they have all worked extremely hard. Our students should be very proud of their achievements.”

Amongst the successful students taking part in the awards evening was Steven Rigby from Bangor, who studied the Access to Science course.  Steven said: “My own experiences at Coleg Menai have been very good. I always strive to work and do better, and I got all the encouragement I needed from my tutors at the college. I thoroughly enjoyed the course and I'm now applying to go to University."

Tim Pennington from Bangor completed the Access to Psychology course, and is now set to start a degree in English at Bangor University.  He said: “The course was absolutely fantastic, and there’s a really strong support network at the college, which helped me no end. I’d been out of education for 24 years, so it was a huge step for me, but I loved every minute. I’m really looking forward to starting at Bangor University, and it’s all thanks to this course.”

Lyndsey Steele, also from Bangor, was delighted to complete the Access to Health Science course: “I studied all kinds of different modules - Psychology, Health, Physiology, IT, Maths and study skills - so it really covered a lot. It was truly life-changing and the tutors where brilliant. It’s because of this course that I’ve been accepted at Bangor University to study Sports Science – I’m hoping to become a Personal Trainer or a Physical Education Teacher.”

Coleg Menai offers a range of Access courses in subjects ranging from Health Studies, Psychology and Science. More information is available online www.menai.ac.uk/courses or contact the course advice line on 01248 383333.
