Mechanical and Building Engineering

The Construction and Engineering Sectors are major employers in the North West Wales area and offer a wide variety of employment opportunities.

The programmes that are available to full-time students have been developed in collaboration with employers. This ensures that the skills learned during your time in college will be directly relevant to local industry and increase your opportunity for employment and further training. Qualifications have also been developed to ensure progression to Higher Education with a broad range of units being combined to give a wide choice of career paths.

Martha Parry-Owen
Engineering Pathway to Apprenticeship, (Performing Engineering Operations NVQ2)

“I studied the Pathways to Apprenticeship course at Coleg Menai, this included City and Guilds, NVQ Performing Engineering Operations, Welsh Bac and Essential Skills qualifications. I learnt a lot of skills including how to use hand tools for fitting and electrical installation, I also learnt how to work with millers and lades. I particularly enjoyed working with all the machines; I did a lot of maintenance work such as dismantling Machines and putting them back together again. All of my tutors were great and they were always ready to help me. I’ve currently started an Apprenticeship with National Grid as a high voltage electrical engineer/craft person. I’m really enjoying the Apprenticeship and it was the course at college that helped me with my progression.”
