Why should you consider higher education in Coleg Menai?
Studying locally
With the rising cost of higher education, staying close to home makes financial sense. As well as cutting down on the cost of attending university, higher education courses are now much more widely available at further education colleges than they used to be. This means that many more people can now take a degree or diploma course at their local college without moving away from home. At Coleg Menai, local students can gain higher education qualifications from a range of courses offered in partnership with four of the main HE institutions in Wales. This is a fantastic opportunity for local people.
Progression
Choosing the course to meet your goals is a lot easier than you think. At Coleg Menai students can progress from GCSE level to Higher Education, without moving to another institution - it is all available at Coleg Menai. These progression opportunities have great benefits for students, particularly mature students.
Finance
People that are thinking about applying for a Higher Education course will be eligible for an assessment to help with fees and an Assembly Learning Grant but everyone is eligible for a student loan. The amount people will receive depends on the level of income or family income. There are also other funds available for certain students e.g. those requiring childcare costs; Disabled Student Allowances; Council Tax Exemption for those in student accommodation; people in financial difficulties can apply for Hardship Funds and Loans. For further information and friendly advice contact the Student Services team on 01248 383334.
Graduation Ceremony
Every Higher Education student who is successful in his or her course will receive an invitation to the annual Graduation Ceremony held in the Cathedral of Bangor. Students are invited to reap the rewards of their hard work and receive their degrees, diplomas and certificates on this special day.
Flexibility
Higher Education courses are available in different formats. There are full and part time courses. Full time courses need not necessarily mean five full days in college. Part time courses can include day and evening sessions. We aim to ensure that there is something to suit everyone‘s needs.
Excellent facilities
The college offers the latest facilities and continues to invest and improve resources. The latest developments include £1.5m investment in technology to upgrade some of its most intensely used facilities. Also, the college has a new £1.3 million Care Studies Centre to provide learning experiences of the highest quality. The purpose built Food Technology Centre was established in 1997 using European funding with the aim of creating a specialised centre of excellence. It is an integral part of Coleg Menai, providing a unique and innovative service for both small and multinational food processors throughout Wales and the rest of the UK.
