Rules

In addition to College Student Regulations, you are required to observe the Rules relating specifically to the Library and open access IT workshops whilst using its facilities and resources. Most of the rules are aimed at ensuring that there's fair and easy access to resources, and a suitable study area - please don't let your actions require a member of staff to have to remind you of them.

The Library

The Library and Learning Resources aims to provide study facilities, sources of information and appropriate resources in support of learning, for students and others. As a student enrolled on a Coleg Menai programme you are entitled to access and use library and learning resources provided to support you with your studies. Using the entitlement means that you implicitly accept the code indicated here.

This Code of Library Conduct supplements the regulations and procedures that students are required to abide by, and published as part of the College’s Code of Conduct, and Health and Safety Policy. Its aim is to help clarify specific requirements with regard to user behaviour in connection with LLR resources, property, premises and staff.

When visiting Library and Learning Resources premises, and using its resources, all students must:

  • Always bear in mind that other users on the premises are likely to be concentrating on their own college work – these users should not be distracted from their studies
  • Ensure that their behaviour will contribute toward a conducive study environment that is appropriate to the LLR
  • Not use the premises as a social gathering place
  • Not run on the premises, to avoid putting the safety of others at risk
  • Not leave unattended any personal belongings
  • Not bring onto the premises any offensive reading or graphic material
  • Not play games, or musical instruments, of any description
  • Not use at volume any audio playback equipment
  • Not misuse any library security system
  • Ensure that, having used any of the study areas, no litter is left behind
  • Return items removed from the shelves for their own reference use, either to their correct location or to the library service counter
  • Take full responsibility for any resources borrowed in their name, and not further lend borrowed resources to a third party
  • Make every effort to ensure that borrowed resources are returned safely, in reasonable condition, and on time
  • Ensure that all borrowed items are returned to a member of library staff, and not left with any other member of college staff or deposited in any other part of college
  • Pay for any damage to college library resources whilst in use or on loan
  • Pay for any loss of college resources whilst on loan.

In failing to comply with any of the above, a student is subject to college disciplinary procedures

Open access IT workshops

Students will be issued with a user name (identical to their enrolment number) with which they can log onto the Coleg Menai network, and a weekly allocation of 30 print credits

Note: The IT rooms may only be used for Coleg Menai work - not personal use

Your use of the Internet will be monitored by technical staff. Students found using the internet for forbidden purposes will lose their access

There are 2 Open Access IT rooms on the Coleg Menai Bangor site, 1 in Llangefni and 1 in Parc Menai:

  • Bangor library computer room
  • Bangor Room B2 on the ground floor of the engineering block
  • Llangefni library computer room
  • Parc Menai, next to library

No other rooms should be used for general IT work, apart from timetabled classes

You are required to carry your ID/library card at all times and produce it when asked by a member of library or IT staff

Students using the Open Access IT rooms have the right to expect a quiet, pleasant room to work in

In order to ensure this, students must not:

  • Make noise that disturbs other students working - e.g. raised voices, playing music on computers or players

  • Use mobile phones - all phones must be switched off

  • Damage or interfere with the computer systems or networks, or alter a computer's settings

  • Gather in groups (more than 1 person) round a computer

  • Retrieve, send or display offensive messages or pictures

  • Use the computers to play games, or use internet games sites or chat sites

  • Use other students' user names, or share or lend their own

  • Bring food, drink or sweets into open access areas

  • Intentionally waste resources or print unnecessarily. (If your work does not print, see the tutor on duty - do not send it to the printer again). Do not print solid colour backgrounds. If you need a coloured background, printing onto coloured paper can be arranged

Violation of any of the above will result in a temporary or permanent ban from using Coleg Menai IT facilities and possibly additional disciplinary action
